POSITION SUMMARY:

Connecticut licensed E-2 Journeyperson responsible for performing maintenance and upgrades to electrical systems on campus. This position will perform all installation, testing, troubleshooting, inspection and documentation of all electrical systems. Perform electrical and related tasks within the guidelines of National Electrical Code, local codes, departmental policies and procedures, standards, accepted trade practices and technical manuals. This position reports to the Electrician Supervisor.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Electrician must present a positive image and will be accountable for quality job performance and for effective participation and support of the best interests of The Hotchkiss School. This position requires a team player who can manage multiple projects and assignments at one time. Setting priorities will be coordinated with the Electrician Supervisor.

Design, estimate cost, order materials for projects and performs work required for the repair, maintenance, installation, and modernization of electrical systems for the School.


*

Ensure that equipment and circuit installations are of good quality.


*

Locate and determine electrical malfunctions using testing equipment.


*

Repair malfunctions by such methods as replacing burned out elements, fuses, and replacing defective wiring, fixtures and motors.


*

Install fixtures, wiring conduits, motors, and other electrical equipment.


*

Inspect circuits for specified shielding and grounding.


*

Must maintain working knowledge of and proficiency with Fire Alarm Systems, Security Systems, Mass Notification, Site Lighting Control (Roamview), Phone System (Avaya), Low Voltage Data, etc., maintaining and repairing the campus systems. Maintaining, repairing, and supervising the campus systems. This would include both OJT and manufacture's training on these proprietary systems.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Connecticut licensed E-2 Journeyperson.

Minimum High School diploma or GED.

Valid driver's license.

Five years of experience in residential, commercial and industrial projects.

Familiarity with independent schools or colleges a plus.


*

Strong interpersonal skills to interact with faculty, staff and students.

Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and changing timelines.

Knowledge/familiarity with computers and various software applications.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Hotchkiss has an 825-acre campus with over seventy buildings; the nature of this position will require that the individual visit many of the facilities.
